Very often students are not satisfied with the grades they get. It is not surprising because they have applied many efforts into their works and sometimes, even spent sleepless nights writing, conducting researches and analyzing information. That is why the problem of justice of the mark scheme has become one of the most burning ones since the mark scheme was created to control the educational process. Mark scheme is a set of criteria used to assess the student’s learning.
The mark scheme in the United States is presented by the levels A, B, C, D, E, F. A-grade is the level which assesses the student’s work as an excellent one. F-grade presents the failure in passing the exam. To write your academic paper perfectly you should know requirements for getting A-grade. According to the mark scheme, you will get an A if your work is perfectly structured, has no mistakes at all, the topic is covered fully and you applied to your creativity while writing your academic paper. F grade, according to the mark scheme means that the student did not manage to comprehend the material learnt in classes at all. If you resort to mark scheme to assess the student’s work, you will see in general it is quite ok and rather objective. But it happens very often that the tutor is not objective in giving a concrete level grade to the student although he/she knows all requirements for putting the grade according to the mark scheme. The tutor is a human being having highs and lows in the character; it is very difficult to be objective while teaching and giving grades in spite of the fact that mark scheme aims at relieving the challenge of assessing.
In addition we would like to say that assessing according to the mark scheme is, in fact, not that easy. But the question is “Is there necessity of giving the grades if the desire to study goes away because of the tutors subjectivity?”
